Message from President Judie Wexler.
May, 2, 2020
I hope this message finds you and your loved ones healthy and safe as we continue to shelter in place.
As you know, we have been working full steam ahead with alternative plans for Commencement. I am deeply appreciative of the ways in which you continue to support one another.
Thank you for your care and thoughtfulness in completing the Commencement Survey. It was instrumental in planning for and putting together this ceremony. We are confident it will be a joyous and meaningful celebration for you, your kin, and community. In these difficult times it is especially important to take time to celebrate.
Recognizing the challenges and uncertainties of these times, below are some important details developed by our Virtual Commencement Committee:
- Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 30 at 11am PDT via livestream. We’re thrilled to announce that Shared Studios will televise the event, which will be accessible to view online shortly thereafter. Shared Studios is an innovative global company that brings together communities separated by distance and difference. They specialize in recreating the magic of graduation, and making it feel as though we are all physically together at the event. Also, you have the option of creating a personal page where you can upload images, videos, and a personal message with a customizable link, should you want that. If you prefer only a portion of this, or if you choose to opt out entirely, you have that option as well. Please fill out this online form here with your preferences (full link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdYWFJo7ceuwfTlwDNBsRf4TA1eBRxIIO0y8e34t5evB_ixVQ/viewform)
- Here is the link to CIIS’ Virtual Commencement website. Please check this page for all information related to the event.
- All eligible graduates will receive an e-invitation, which will also appear on the Commencement website.
- All eligible graduates will also receive an invitation to attend the 2021 in-person Commencement. All graduating students of 2020 will receive information in Spring 2021 via their mymail. Based on current knowledge, we do not believe it will be possible to have a large-scale face-to-face event before Spring 2021.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to Fraylanie at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions about Commencement—both 2020’s virtual format and 2021’s future event.
Especially when we are facing so much disruption in our lives, it is easy to overlook the importance of ceremonies of celebration. Finding joyous moments in difficult times sustains us as individuals and as communities. We will come together over distance to commemorate your graduation and all it means on the May 30 Commencement.
I look forward to the day when we can come together in person to celebrate your accomplishments.
