Nourse Theater, 275 Hayes Valley St., San Francisco

Graduates from Summer 2017, Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 are invited to attend the Commencement Ceremony on May 19, 2018. Exceptions are intended for students who have officially completed all coursework by Spring 2018 and a final semester of practicum in Summer 2018.

Venue / Location
We are pleased to announce that the 2018 CIIS Commencement Ceremony will be held at the Nourse Theatre, located in Hayes Valley just a few blocks from campus. The Nourse has an expansive seating capacity, and is built in a beautiful Art Deco style with dramatic cathedral ceilings and beautiful architectural flourishes throughout. It is a landmark venue in the heart of San Francisco’s Performing Arts District, and we are delighted to be hosting our ceremony there. The Nourse Theatre, 275 Hayes Street (at Franklin Street), is accessible by public transportation. Plan a trip via BART, MUNI and/or Golden Gate Transit by visiting Nearby parking lots include the Civic Center Parking Garage and the Performing Arts Garage.

Graduates must arrive at the Nourse Theater no later than 1:30 p.m. Graduates will be seated together by degree and academic program. The Ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m. Please note: there is no place to store personal belongings so only bring what you can carry on your person. We expect the Ceremony to end around 5:00 p.m.

Graduate Regalia (Cap and Gown)
If you missed the April 23rd deadline, we have re-opened the regalia site for late orders. Please order by 9pm on May 3rd at Please enter the full name of California Institute of Integral Studies in the search box.  The school name will appear, then click on that to continue. In addition, all late orders are shipped by FedEx air and shipping fee will cost around $30-35.

Electronic Announcement
You can download this digital announcement (also sent as an attachment in an email sent to all graduates). Announcements are useful for sending to your guests or for sharing news of your graduation with friends and family. The announcements serve as a formal memento of the event; please note to your guests that these announcements are NOT tickets to the ceremony.

Your Name & Dissertation Title
At the commencement ceremony, many students’ names and for doctoral students their dissertation titles will be read aloud to the audience. A voice mailbox has been set up for any student concerned that their names may be mispronounced. Please call (415) 575-3439 and extension 3439 and state your name, title, and program so that the announcer may hear and rehearse it before the ceremony.

We are recommending that each graduate bring no more than six (6) guests to ensure there are enough seats for everyone's guests. Guests do not need advance tickets. Doors to the theater will open at 2:15pm. The ceremony begins promptly at 3:00 pm and will last approximately two hours. The theater is wheelchair accessible. The Commencement ceremony will be particularly long for young children and going in and out of the theater is disruptive to the ceremony. We do not recommend bringing infants and young children to the ceremony, as child care is not available.

For Students and Guest who Need Disability Accommodations
We have been in touch with graduates who have indicated they or their guests will require accommodations for the ceremony. If you need to request accommodations please contact Student Affairs at
